The performance is based on Nikolai Ostrovsky's novel «How the Steel was Tempered», but also it is made up of a variety of materials and the novel is presented only in fragments, that's why the author's face is on the playbill.
The novel was called «autobiographical», and the invented feats of the protagonist were attributed to the author, making Ostrovsky, who was bedridden and exhausted by his illness, a living embodiment of the Soviet revolutionary struggle.
The performance is dedicated to the life of a man, from which forcibly made a symbol for a whole generation.
